TMT BAR

TMT (stands for Thermo Mechanically Treated) Bar, also called as Reinforcing Bar or Rebar in CIVIL ENGINEERING terminology, is described as a high-strength reinforcement bar with a tough outer core and soft inner core.

TMT bar manufacturers in India manufacture four different grades of TMT bars – Fe-415, Fe-500, Fe-500D,  Fe-550, Fe-550D and Fe-600. The numbers indicate the level of stress that must be applied to deform it and higher the grade, the stronger and superior the bar is. The grades are given according to their strength and rigidity.

The letter ‘D’denotes ductility. TMT steel bars of D grade have a higher percentage of tensile strength and elongation.

MT bars are available in 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, and 32 mm diameters.

  • 8mm steel rods & 10mm steel rods  are used in stairways, slabs and more act as load bearing  in a structure; hence they.
  •    TMT bars ranging from 12mm to 25mm are used in beams & columns capable of withstanding high external loads
  •   TMT bars of thickness greater than 25mm, i.e., 32mm steel rods are used in the construction of large infrastructure projects such as dams, bridges, roadways & more.
Category:

Size of TMT Bar No. of Rods per Bundle Weight in Kg/Bundle
8 mm 10 45 to 46 kg
10 mm 7 49 to 50 kg
12 mm 5 51 to 52 kg
16 mm 3 54 to 56 kg
20 mm 2 58 to 60 kg
25 mm 1 44 to 46 kg

Formula to calculate the weight of TMT BAR Is   D x D x L / 162. Here, D is the diameter and L is the length (usually 12).

The data given above is indicative. Actual weights may vary.
